A five man committee has been set up by the ministry of education to probe the cause of the students' strike at Wairaka College on Tuesday last week
Ben Otim Ogwette, Jinja Chief Administrative Officer was tasked to set up the committee.
The committee comprises of Chairman Paul Wekiya Gwaira, Jinja district Internal Auditor Dr. Peter Diego Nantamu, Jinja district Health Officer Abraham Were, District Education Officer Kim Bwayo and Robinah Mwere, Jinja princuipal personnel officer among others.
CAO Otim Ogwette says the committee commences its work on Monday today, and has to come up with a report in two weeks time.
Students of Wairaka College in Jinja district matched out of their school protesting against bad conditions at the school and blaming it on Paul Kato Setimba, the school headmaster.
The students were complaining of bad feeding at the school, lack of text books in the library, and increment of school fees. The students also claimed that most of the dormitories and classrooms leak whenever it rains.
They say efforts to talk to the school administration have been futile and they want the headmaster, Paul Kato Setimba, to be relieved of his position at the school in order for the school to improve its standards.
Following the strike, CAO Otim Ogwette and the district police commander, Abraham Were resolved for the school to be closed.
Paul Kato Setimba, has declined to talk to any journalists.
