12 Arrested for Illegal fishing gears

Twelve people in Buyende district have been arrested for their alleged possesion of illegal fishing gears.

The suspects were arrested on Monday, in an aoperation mounted by the district fisheries office led by John Muwadi.

16 sub standard nets populary known as "Kokota"  and seven gill nets were recovered from the suspects and set on fire. 

The fisheries officer,  said on Monday that his office has since January confiscated more than 600 illegal fishing nets, and 60 boats. He explained that the operation is intended to regulate activities in the fishing sector.
