Masaka youth leaders have shunned Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi's victory party today.
The party was held at Kindu Parish in Kyanamukaka Sub County, where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the chief guest. The youths claim to have been denied a chance to be represented at the function. They say they were not given invitations as youth leaders.
The youths led by their Chairman, Richard Kimera, say they were not included on the list of guests and speakers for this particular ceremony.
Kimera says they approached the Masaka Resident District Commissioner, Bamusedde Bwambale to discuss issues concerning representation and participation at the function, but he reportedly denied them time for discussion.
He adds that Paul Migadde, the organizing committee chairman did not take them serious when they contacted him over the issue. Kimera says Migadde told them that the youth leaders turned up when the programme had already been drafted.
The youth now blame RDC Bwambale and Migadde for undermining their role in the district leadership as youths yet they played a big role during the presidential campaigns.
Kimera further threatened to mobilize a peaceful demonstration to express their anger over the RDC's conduct and attitude towards issues concerning the youth in Masaka district. He did not disclose when the demonstration would be effected.
However, RDC Bwambale denied the accusations saying he was not the organizing committee chairman. He says the youth leaders reported at the time when preparations for the function were already done.
Bwambale says youth representatives should always register in time with the organizers of such functions adding that it’s difficult to change the programme at the last minute.
Efforts to reach Migadde for a comment were futile as he was at the function and his mobile phone was off.
At Masaka High Court today, Jude Mbabaali withdrew an election petition filed against Sekandi but the vice president was not in court.
