Eastern football team has begun training amidst financial difficulties, ahead of the national regional football tournament in Tororo in August 2011.

Amin Bbosa, head of the team now training for the tournament says the 28-man squad that is in residential training in Jinja, lacks enough funds to sustain the team for the remaining days before they travel to Tororo. The team comprises of players from Busia, Tororo, Iganga, Jinja, Bugiri and Kamuli districts.

He says the team needs close to ten million shillings to cater for transport, accommodation, feeding, and medical facilities as well as allowances for the players. Most of the logistics are being borrowed to move on.

He says the Federation of Uganda Football Association – FUFA is meant to provide some money for the tournament but this usually comes in late, yet the team has to train to be together since most players come from different teams in the region.

Asuman Bajampola, last year’s Eastern football team captain says although the conditions are not very good, he is glad the team has begun training early to form coordination. He says last year the team was together for two days and the performance at last year’s tournament held in Kabale was not good.

Moses Magogo, the FUFA competition committee secretary says the tournament slated to kick off on August 3rd, will attract seven teams from seven regions of Uganda. He says all is set but the funds are yet to arrive due to a delay from the sponsors.
