Government aided primary schools in Mbarara municipality remained closed on day two of the teachers strike on Friday.
The strike also paralyzed all school activities including this year’s music, dance and drama festival. The senior education officer Mbarara municipality, Greens Erick Kansiime, says participating schools are unable to take part, because the music and games masters are on strike.
Some of the pupils that were supposed to take part in the festival expressed disappointment after learning that the competition was postponed over the teachers strike.
The schools were also scheduled to take part in the divisional Ball games.
At Uganda martyrs primary school, by mid day apart from P.7 candidate’s class who were revising on their own, the rest of the classes were deserted.
The school’s deputy head teacher, Arinaitwe premier Tibesigwa, said the children reported early in the morning ready for studies but were sent back home due to the absence of teachers.
The same scenario is reported in the neighboring districts of Isingiro and Kiruhura.
