Six arrested for Illegal Lumbering

They were arrested during an impromptu operation by the National forestry authority officials.
 Six people in Hoima district have been arrested for their alleged involvement in illegal timber extraction.
 
Pida Bisebeho, Vincent man, Francis Muganura, Steven Ngabirano, Stephan Sunday and John Ngorogoza, all residents of Kyarushesa village in Kyagwari Sub-county Hoima District, were caught red handed on Thursday evening ferrying trees for timber in Bugoma national forest reserve in Kyangwali sub county.
 
They were arrested during an impromptu operation by the National forestry authority officials.
 
Richard Ssenturo, the manager National forestry Authority Hoima branch, says they also impounded three hand saws they were using cutting tree, 50 pieces of timber and other materials including food, fuel which have been handed over to police as exhibits.
 
Senturo says the onsite operations would continue to curb illegal encroachment.
 
Patrick Mwebaze, the Hoima police criminal investigations officer, says the suspects are being detained at Hoima police station, pending their appearance in court to answer charges of illegal encroachment of forest reserve and malicious damage.
