A 20-year-old woman has been arrested for posing as a nurse and allegedly treating patients admitted in Mbale Referral Hospital.
Janet Kayesi, a resident of Namatala Ward in Mbale town was arrested on Monday while administering a drip to a patient in labor ward. Trouble for Kayesi started after a patient raised concern that she had abruptly stopped the drip before the time when it was supposed to be removed.
She allegedly entered the ward dressed as a nurse and moved around checking on patients who were on drip.
Her luck, however, ran out when a patient disagreed with her for stopping the drip prematurely. The patient alerted the nurses, who later discovered she was an imposter.
The nurses alerted police leading to her arrest.
Diana Nandaula, the Eastern Uganda Police spokesperson says the police today went to the home of the suspect in Namatala and discovered that she got the uniform from her neighbor, who is a retired nurse. Nandaula suspects that the lady could have been camouflaging as a nurse in order to steal property from unsuspecting patients.
Kayesi is to be charged with impersonation and theft.
David Obol, the Mbale Hospital Senior Administrator recently told Uganda Radio Network that the hospital is facing a serious challenge from idlers who roam around the premises.
