The lives of hundreds of thousands of children under the age of five in Uganda are lost to preventable illnesses like pneumonia and diarrhea. But health experts say breastfeeding provides a free and effective way for a baby to live ahealthy life and avoid these killer diseases.
UNICEF and its partners have been reaching out to new mothers in western Uganda, during World Breastfeeding Week that began August 7, advocating for breastfeeding.
Dr Richard Sekitoleko, who runs a health center in Kibito, western Uganda said that he has seen firsthand the benefits that come with breast feeding.
