John Kamukama, the LC I chairman for Kabeteme village in Rakai and members of his executive have gone into hiding for flogging a resident to death. Kamukama and his executive committee members are wanted in connection to the death of Dan Mwesigye.
Mwesigye died on Monday while being rushed to Hospital after being given 60 lashes of the cane. Trouble for Mwesigye started when his mother Jacinta Kobusingye filed a case in the LC I court accusing him of harassing her. Kobusingye said it all started after she failed to give the deceased food and asked the officials to intervene in the matter.
She says that LCs convened a meeting and passed a resolution to can the deceased. Kobusingye explains that Mwesigye fainted after receiving about 60 lashes of the cane and died while being rushed to hospital. Kiwanuka Ssemwogerere, Rakai Police Community Liaison officer has condemned the action of the LC executive saying they have no powers to punish suspects.
Rose Nabakooza, Rakai Criminal Investigations Department Officer says that police has mounted a search for the LCs to answer for the death of Mwesigye. Nabakooza says that investigations into the matter are ongoing and appeals to residents to volunteer information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
