The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that no Ugandan has been arrested or affected in the ongoing riots in the United Kingdom.

Ambassador James Mugume, the permanent secretary says that by Thursday morning, his office was still in contact with UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth office and no Ugandan had been affected. Mugume says that there is need for the Ugandans living in the UK to restrict their movement.

He says that Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK is already asking Ugandans to lie low until the situation is better. Mugume notes that this is a normal advice for Ugandans living in troubled areas.

But the PS is hopeful that the situation will return to normal after the Prime Minister, David Cameron promised to resolve the matter.

MPs in London were recalled from their summer recess on Thursday in the wake of continued disorder across London and other English cities.

According to agencies, David Cameron addressed Parliament and promised to increase police personnel on London streets from 6,000 to 16,000.

Some politicians are calling for tougher measures to quell the violence, which is in its third day.
