Police in Hoima have arrested nine people, who were ferrying immature fish to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The immature fish worth millions of shillings was also impounded in the Saturday incident.
The business men were arrested by the police enforcement officials from the fisheries department in conjunction with Hoima police detectives, while at Kijangi landing site in Tonya parish, Buseruka Sub County in Hoima district.
Patrick Mwebaze, the Hoima police O/C crime identifies the suspects as Hussein Ocaki, Ibrahim Ovon, Lenox Otyek, Stephen Owinyi and John Ojigiri.
Others include Vonga Ocayi, Alex Kissa, Kende Mungu and Hussein Muzamil, all fish businessmen in Buseruka.
Mwebaze explains the businessmen were intercepted and arrested with two boats full of immature fish as they prepared to take off from Tonya landing to the DRC.
He says the catch is being kept at Kaiso police post pending a court order for destruction, adding that the suspects are currently being detained at Hoima central police station pending prosecution in court very soon.
Mwebaze says police are investigating the matter with reports suggesting that one boat full of immature fish had already crossed the lake to the Congo side.
Last month, the district fisheries department in conjunction with police launched an operation to crack down illegal fishing. James Mwesigwa, the district fisheries officer says over 10 tones of immature fish have been impounded during the operation, which he described as Save Lake Albert campaign.
