Residents opposed to the Hoima Boma ground giveaway are now seeking audience with Daudi Migereko, the minister of lands, housing and urban development.
Migereko is in Hoima to try to iron out the Boma land controversy.
In May this year, Hoima district council passed a resolution to give away the municipal Boma grounds for the expansion of Hoima hospital. The hospital’s expansion is part of its 30 year development master plan designed last year.
But the district council’s decision was opposed by some residents who want the recreational grounds to stay. The municipal council also opposed the move, arguing that they were never consulted by the district council.
The minister is expected to meet municipal, district and hospital authorities. But before the scheduled meeting, those opposed to the giveaway are demanding audience with him.
The residents are under the umbrella of Hoima concerned citizens committee headed by Ausi Balyesiima.
Balyesiima says his group must meet Migereko saying he has already contacted the Hoima town clerk, who has agreed to include them on the minister’s program.
His claims were however not readily verified as the town clerk, Pius Epaju was held up in a meeting by press time.
Balyesiima says his group has so many concerns to tell the minister in addition to the many petitions they have sent to his office regarding the Boma ground giveaway.

The district chairman George Tinkamanyire Bagonza and the hospital authorities insist Boma land must go.
Bagonza says the controversy has put the hospital project in balance and the donors, Japan International Development Agency are considering relocating it to Masindi hospital.
Balyesiima however says they are ready to push the matter to the president if the minister doesn’t heed to their demand.

Cue out “ the president……”//
