After failing to stage a demonstration over load shedding, opposition leaders in Mbarara town have decided to mobilize residents from the neighboring districts to join them in their campaign.

The leaders, under ‘Electricity Drive Pressure group on Wednesday failed to hold their planned demonstration due to heavy police deployment in the area. Anti riot police deployed heavily on the streets of Mbarara scaring away the would be demonstrators. The leaders are protesting the frequent load shedding, which they say affects their businesses.

DP’s Imam Makumbi, who is the pressure group chairman, says they have decided to move to other districts in western Uganda to stretch security.

Makumbi says they will begin their anti load shedding demonstrations in Ntungamo, Kabale, Rukungiri and Ibanda districts before proceeding to other parts of the region.

Makumbi did not mention when these protests are to take place for fear of alerting police to foil them.
But police in the region insists they will not allow protests to take place.

Poly Namaye, the police publicist says they will maintain patrols in all opposition strongholds to avert any attempt to stage demonstrations.
