World Water Week debates growing water demand

News
The demand for food production is increasing continuously while the water supplies are continuing to diminish.

The world population is expected to grow to 9 billion people by 2050, and the majority will live in urban areas.
These mega-cities will place a lot of strain on global water resources.

Under the theme “Water in an Urbanizing World”, the annual World Water Week is underway in Stockholm, Sweden.
The event is a platform where people discuss global water challenges.

Dr. Pasquale Steduto, Chief of the FAO Water Unit, explained on Thursday that there is a strong link between water and agriculture. He said the demand for food production is increasing continuously while the water supplies are continuing to diminish.
