Bukonzo East Member of Parliament, Yokasi Bihande who was on Monday remanded to Luzira Prison over fraud has been released on bail.
Bihande was dragged to court by the Inspectorate of Government, for uttering false documents and embezzling constituency development fund money amounting to over 20 million shillings.
Prosecution led by Sarah Birungi alleges that between 2008/2009 and 2009/10 financial years, Bihande presented false documents of CDF accountability to the chief accountant of parliament.
Bihande has since denied the charges.
The Anti-Corruption Court Judge Paul Mugamba ordered for the release of the legislator after he applied for bail through his lawyer, Ivan Engoru and presented three sureties.
Delivering his ruling, Justice Mugamba granted Bihande bail of Shs 2 million cash, which was earlier deposited to the lower court. Each of the three sureties was bonded at Shs 50 million not cash. The judge also ordered Bihande to surrender his passport and report to the court registrar every last Friday of the month.
On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Magistrates Court presided over by Sarah Langa committed Bihande to High Court for trial. His bail was consequently cancelled and was remanded to Luzira prisons.
In May, Bihande was granted cash bail of Shs 4 million for the two case files. He is facing charges of uttering false documents and embezzlement of Constituency Development Fund. Bihande allegedly embezzled the funds by virtue of his position as Bukonzo East Member of Parliament.
Every financial year, government gives each legislator shillings 10 million as constituency development fund to boost development in their areas.
