The price of sugar hit the 10,000 price mark amid rising shortages in Masindi town.
Uganda Radio Network reporter in Masindi town says sugar shelves in most shops and major supermarkets had run empty by Saturday morning.
In Kijura trading center, a suburb of Masindi town, a kilogram of sugar was being sold at 10,000 shillings.
The sugar crisis in Masindi is expected to last until Friday when Kinyara sugar churns out its produce.
Sugar production at Kinyara factory resumed over the weekend, but Ramadasan Vekatraman, the general manager said he expects enough supplies in four days time.
Retail businessmen in Masindi say they cannot afford to buy sugar directly from Kinyara because the factory sells in Bulk. Business men instead buy Kinyara sugar from Kampala in the quantities they can afford.
Kinyara produces 4000 tonnes of sugar per day but the factory is expected to double the production when they increase on the cane.
