Toro Kingdom Clan Council has threatened to move a vote of no confidence against two members of the council for secretly meeting Queen Mother Best Kemigisa.
Last week, Steven Nyamutale, the chairperson of the council and Rukidi Mpuuga, the secretary met Kemigisa at Omukama Oyo’s palace in Munyonyo, a Kampala suburb.
The meeting was called by Kemigisa to persuade the clan council to withdraw the court case that was filed by some members of the council.
Last year, members of the clan council dragged King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru 1V and other kingdom officials to court and secured an injunction blocking the kingdom’s bank accounts.
The meeting with Kemigisa has angered the members who have accused Nyamutale and Mpuuga of betrayal and want to move a vote of no confidence against the duo.
John Baranga, a member of the council says that Mpuuga and Nyamutale did not inform the clan council that they were going to meet Kemigisa.
Baranga claims that Nyamutale and Mpuuga could have been compromised so that they influence the other council members to withdraw the court case.
Moses Isingoma, another member says that Nyamutale and Mpuuga should have met King Oyo and not Kemigisa, because it was King Oyo who was dragged to court. He says that the case will not be withdrawn from court until King Oyo addresses the conflicts in the kingdom.
Isingoma says that the actions of the two have demoralized the members of the council, because council had been viewed as a forum which was calling for better administration of the Kingdom and now people will lose confidence in its activities.
He also says that they will hold a meeting over the weekend and move a vote of no confidence against Nyamutale and Mpuuga.
However Nyamutale says the meeting with Kemigisa was to plan for the meeting with King Oyo, which will be held next week in Fort Portal. He also denied allegations that he was compromised to withdraw the court case.
Asked why members of the council were not informed of the meeting, Nyamutale says there was no need to inform them, because the meeting with Kemigisa was urgent and there was no time to notify them.
He also says that as a chairperson, he does have to seek permission from the members to hold meetings with anybody. When asked whether the case in the High Court will be withdrawn as requested by Kemigisa, Nyamutale said that it will be discussed during the meeting on Saturday.
