A UPDF soldier attached to the 65th battalion in Kabong district has been shot and killed in a gunfire exchange with Dodoth warriors.
Private Jackson Adriko, was killed on Thursday morning near Kabong airstrip, shortly after he was cornered by a group of Dodoth warriors, a Karamojong ethnic group of cattle raiders mainly based in Kabong and Kotido districts.
Lt. Ceaser Olweny, the 5th division UPDF spokesman, said on Friday that the deceased, a resident of Arua town was part of a group of UPDF soldiers deployed to guard Kabong airstrip.
Adriko however sneaked out of the group and was confronted by a group of Dodoth warriors sparking off a gunfire exchange. He was shot twice in the left thigh and a gunshot in the abdomen killed him on the spot.
Olweny said the deceased’s body was taken to Kabong hospital mortuary and will be transportated to the UPDF 5th division headquarters at Achol-pii in Pader district.
The army public relations officer said the army is hunting for the group who are reportedly moving with several cattle they reportedly raided from the neighboring Kenyan communities.
