At least three Jie warriors were killed on Monday and two others captured in a UPDF ambush in Kaabong district.
The 5th Division spokesperson, Lt. Ceaser Olweny said the warriors, suspected to be from Kachire in Kotido district, were from their raid when they entered an ambush that was set by the 503 Brigade soldiers at Loleliya village on Monday evening.
Olweny said they recovered from warriors a short machine gun and seven rounds of ammunition. He added that the army also recovered 26 goats and seven head of cattle that they had raided from the village.
He explained that the two who were captured alive had lost direction after the gunfire exchange and were found in Lucom parish in Sidok Sub County, Kaabong district by the soldiers who were trailing them.
By Tuesday morning the two were being escorted to the 503 brigade headquarters in Kaabong town for more integration.
Monday’s incident came barely 12 hours after the UPDF soldiers killed three Dodoth warriors from Kotido in another ambush in Rengeng Sub County, Kotido district on Sunday evening.
Lt. Olweny said they recovered 5 head of cattle that were raided by the warriors in the Sunday clash.
He said the warriors are taking advantage of the rainy season thinking that the army has relaxed its security. He said the operation against the warriors who are adamant to bow to the on-going disarmament exercise in Karamoja region will continue.
