Rains Stall Work At Buseruka Mini Power Station

News
The heavy rains are hampering construction work at the Kabale Mini power dam in Buseruka Sub county, Hoima district.
The heavy rains are hampering construction work at the Kabale Mini power dam in Buseruka Sub county, Hoima district.

The Mini power station located on River Wambabya is a few kilometers away from the site proposed for the oil refinery also in Kabale parish.

Although work at the dam is in advanced stages, contractors say the heavy rains are making causing unnecessary delays.

Rogay Kumar Raddy, the project Manager Hydromax Limited, the company contracted to do the work says the heavy rains are hampering the movement of their machines especially in the construction of a power channel and house.

The project manager however says this will not derail the completion of the project by November this year. According to Raddy, final touches are being done on the power channel and the power house.

Also electric poles are being erected for a power line from the mini power station connecting to Kinubi in Hoima town, the regional electricity distribution centre. It’s from Kinubi that the power will be connected to the national grid.

Fred Kabagambe Kaliisa, the Permanent secretary ministry of energy and mineral resources says the 30-million-dollar project will be commissioned in December this year. When completed, the power station will produce 9 mega watts.

Kabagambe says the power project will avail enough electricity for the region and a surplus for export. The power generation at Buseruka is expected to heal problems of power load-shedding in the region.

Hoima town sometimes goes without power for three days and this affects businesses.
