Police in Kyenjojo district are investigating the circumstances under which a Special Police Constable reportedly went on rampage and shot two people dead.

SPC James Mugume, attached to Kyenjojo police station, is accused of pulling a trigger at Isaiah Mugume, and Robert Amanyire Andrew, both residents of Bugaki sub county in Kyenjojo district.

Wilson Kwanya, the Western Regional Police Commander, says Mugume committed the offense on Wednesday night at a drinking joint in Kyenjojo town council.

Preliminary reports show that prior to the shoot out at a drinking joint in Kyenjojo,  Mugume was engaged in a quarrel with the two men. The trio were reportedly feuding over a woman, before a fight broke out.

Raging with anger, the SPC pulled out his gun, pulled the trigger and killed the two men. He later fled the scene with his gun and has since gone into hiding.

Kwanya says that some houses close to the drinking joint were damaged by the bullets.

The RPC says police are hunting for the errant SPC. He says that if arrested, the SPC will be charged with murder and misuse of fire arms.

Bodies of the deceased men were by Thursday Morning still lying in the hospital mortuary.

The woman who is believed to have triggered the impasse between the three men has been asked to record a statement at the police station.
