Deus Tumusiime, Mbarara LC V chairman is under fire from his councilors for pursuing compensation of shillings 300 Million from the district for unlawfully rescinding his appointment as District Education Officer. It all started in 2008 when Tumusiime was appointed by Mbarara District Service Commission as DEO. His appointed was however, rescinded by the district council on grounds that Tumusiime was unlawfully appointed District Education Officer.
Tumusiime dragged the district council to court for illegally rescinding his appointment and won the case. Court ordered Mbarara district council to pay Tumusiime shillings 300 million in compensation. The district council has also instructed Wilson Tibugyenda, Mbarara Chief Administrative Officer to appeal the ruling. The district councilors led by Didas Tabaro, the representative for Rubindi sub-county argue that it is unfair for Tumusiime to insist on the compensation that will plunder the district he leads.
Tabaro says that they also want to petition the constitutional court to interpret for them whether someone Tumusiime can continue serving as chairperson of the same council he took to court arguing that this could compromise the case. However, Tumusiime insists that he continue pursuing his compensation from the district. Tumusiime claims that the councilors opposed to his compensation are his political opponents but vows to ensure he gets paid his money.
