IGP: Kyenjojo CID for Investigation

News
Oneni is accused of extorting money from complainants under the pretext that the money is being used to facilitate the transportation of sniffer dogs to crime scenes.
The inspector General of Police, Maj.Gen.Kale Kayihura, has ordered for the arrest of Oneni Gilbert, a CID detective attached to Kyenjojo police station.

Oneni is accused of extorting money from complainants under the pretext that the money is being used to facilitate the transportation of sniffer dogs to crime scenes.

The order by the IGP stems from numerous complaints by the residents of Kyenjojo town council, who accused the detective before his boss of sabotaging cases.

During a meeting on Saturday, at Kyenjojo police station,  the residents pinned Oneni and the Criminal Investigations Department Head OC CID Achola Doris, of demanding for bribes.
Joan Kabahuma, of Kyenjojo town told the IGP how she was asked to pay 100,000 shillings before police could release the sniffer dogs to the scene.

She however said that after paying the money, the sniffer dogs went straight to the suspect’s house, but police detectives refused to enter the house and instead abused the complainant.

She openly accused the police of conniving with the suspects to kill her case.

Kayihura put the Criminial Investigations Officer, to task to explain the alleged bribery, but she failed to respond prompting the IGP to ask a team of CIDs from the headquarters to come and investigate her and if found guilty she will be sacked.

Kayihura also picked a phone and called Detective Oneni Gilbert, who was reportedly off duty, but on realizing that he was talking to IGP, he quickly switched off his phone, prompting the IGP to order for his arrest.

Kaihur has also ordered for the suspension a police attached to Katuguru police post in Kigarale sub County, for assaulting a man.

The IGP told the angry residents that the services of sniffer dogs are free and no police officer should demand any coin from the complainants.
