Caritas to Construct Water Tanks in Kabale

Caritas Constructs 240,000 underground water harvesting tanks in Kabale.
Caritas, a Catholic NGO plans to construct 240,000 underground water harvesting tanks for least advantaged families in Kabale.

The project spread over a three year period, targets families living in hilly areas that lack access to clean water and have to walk long distances in search of water.

Rev.Fr. Emmanuel Safari, the Director of Caritas, says each underground water with a 20, 000 liter holding capacity, will cost the Caritas about 1.6 million shillings.

Fr. Safari says beneficiary families are expected to dig a hole ready for the construction work to begin.

Thomson Baryshnikov, a resident of Ruhija Sub County, is happy that the construction of the water tank will be a very big relief to his family. He says members of his family have been trekking for more than 10 kilometers to fetch clean water for home use.
