The international community is being urged to consider establishing an international protection force to protect civilians in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Shamsul Bari, the UN independent expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia sounded the call on Wednesday following a car bomb attack on Tuesday in which at least 65 people mainly students and their parents were killed.
Bari described the incident as sad saying that many of the people who died were students waiting for their examination results, and hoping for scholarships to Turkey and Sudan.
He said a protection force would complement the work of the African Union (AMISOM) peacekeepers to stabilize Mogadishu.
AMISOM was created by the Africa Union's peace and Security Council on January 19th 2007; with a mandate to support transitional government implement a national security plan, which includes training the Somali security forces and creating a secure environment for the delivery of humanitarian aid.
