Two men working with the electricity company UMEME have been arrested for soliciting a 400,000 million shilling bribe.
Henry Alyanga, Central North police spokesman says Ronald Sebunya and Julius Semugaye currently in detention at Apac Central police station solicited a bribe from Raymond Ojok, as an inducement for not disconnecting power to his workshop.
David Ibanda, the Apac district police detective chief, says Ojok told police that the two men approached him at his workshop claiming that he had an accumulated bill of 800,000 shillings, despite his recent bill showing a zero balance.
Ojok offered 20,000 shillings but the men refused and instead demanded for 400,000 shillings, digging their way to the police station.
The man alerted police leading to their arrest.
The Lira district UMEME manager, Geoffrey Muhinda, says his office has received information about the arrests. He says they are trying to authenticate the identities of the suspects.
He suspected that they could be the staff of NEC limited, a company contracted by the UMEME limited to carry power disconnection and debt collection.
