About eight teachers including the headmaster and his deputy at Gomi Primary School, Agali Sub County in Lira district were on Friday evening left homeless after a devastating rainstorm destroyed their houses.

Ongora Eliot, a primary six English teacher said he lost most of his property including food items, mattresses and some books amounting to Shs2.4 million.

He said however he slept at a friend’s place but over 52 persons mostly children and women had to spend their nights in classrooms.

Felix Acok, a science teacher said the incident will gravely affect their operation which may result into pupils’ poor performance.

Acok, a father of eight said he is now stranded and stuck especially. He says he has nowhere to accommodate his family when the pupils resume studies on Monday.

When URN reporter visited the school on Saturday, most teachers were still collecting some of their destroyed property including clothes, and beddings while some children were seen shivering, sending a clear sign that they had been affected by the coldness.

Sam Lolo, the chairperson parents and teachers association said the collapsed buildings were constructed by the parents out of the little funds raised from building fees.

Lolo added that they will convene an emergency parents meeting to discuss ways of constructing new houses for the affected teachers.
