News
Heavy down pours with hailstones last Friday left over 2,000 households’ homeless in Odek Sub County, Gulu district.
Over 2000 people in Odek Sub County in Gulu are homeless following a heavy down pour on Friday that devastated their homes. Matthew Olobo, the former LC3 chairman of Odek Sub County says that heavy down pour accompanied by hailstones started at around and 5:30pm and went on for several hours.

He says that the most affected are residents of Palaro and Lamola parish in Odek Sub County. Olobo says that flood water washed away about 2000 huts leaving residents without any shelter. He says that the storm also destroyed several crop gardens.

Simon Olam, the LC1 chairman of Awali, says that the destroyed crops include Soya beans, Maize, sorghum and cassava. He calls on government to provide residents with seeds to replant their gardens before the dry season sets in.

An elder who refused to be named blamed the disaster on residents accusing them of failing to worship their traditional gods called ‘Olal Teng’. He says that the gods have become hungry leading to disasters in the community.
