Torrential rains on Friday destroyed 20 houses in Lugogole village Baitambogwe Sub County, Mayuge district leaving residents homeless and their property submerged.

The rains began falling Thursday evening and continued for the next 24 hours.

Simon Kalamba, a resident of Lugolole says most of the affected houses were constructed with mud and sticks and were weakened by water that collected around the structures due to poor drainage and soils that hold a lot of water not to flow.

Most of the people affected lost house hold property such as beddings, plates and mugs as well as personal documents.

Close to 60 people are now left homeless.

Omar Daktur Bongo, the Mayuge LCV chairman turned up to see the affected people and promised to help them with iron sheets and some poles to reconstruct their homes. He advised them to dig trenches around their homes to divert water away from their houses.
