Five people are feared dead in a boat accident that occurred on Tuesday night at Kaiso landing site in Buseruka Sub county, Hoima district.
The passengers were heading from Kaiso landing site to the Democratic Republic of Congo capsized. Sources say the boat was carrying more than 10 people all Congolese nationals. Only four people survived the accident.
Pascal Ecumu, the officer in charge of marine on Lake Albert says only one body has been retrieved. He said the accident resulted from a mechanical breakdown in the boat engine.
The passengers were for one hour left stranded in the middle of the lake until the boat sank off.
Ecumu says marine police has been dispatched in the area to search for the missing people.
Tuesday’s accident brings to two the number of accidents that have occurred on Lake Albert over the last two months. In September, two people died after a boat from Kaiso landing site in Buseruka Sub county, Hoima district capsized.
