The parish priest of Kareire Church of Uganda in Kakinga Arch deaconry, North Kigezi diocese has been suspended for alleged adultery.
Trouble for Rev Charles Bitini stems from reports that he impregnated a senior five girl, and tried to handle the matter secretly with the girl’s parents.
The girl (Names with held) is a daughter to the catechist in the church of Uganda in Kebisoni sub county.
The reverend allegedly agreed to offer two million shillings to the girl’s parents and pledged to take care of the girl until she delivered.
But some Christians rose up in arm protesting the manner in which the case was being handled and reported the matter to the bishop.
a source in the Bishop’s office, said on Tuesday that Rev. Bitini was given a letter of suspension on Monday. The letter in part reads that the priest has been suspended, pending a diocesan council meeting early 2012, which will decide his fate.
The head of laity Kareire C.O.U, Stanley Mugisha said the Rev. Bitini has handed over the office.
The archdeacon and I will be care taking the church until another priest is posted here, said Mugisha.
A Christian at Kareire C.O.U only identified as Joan said that, Rev. Bitini is alleged to have been in affair with the girl three years ago. The girl is currently 19 years and if proved that he started affair with her three years ago, is likely to be charged with defilement.
In 2007, the grade one magistrate in Rukungiri the then her Worship Lilian Buchana sentenced Rev. Charles Bitini to 27 months for theft, trespass and threatening violence.
He was then accused of theft of beans and threatening violence against the owner of the beans.
