Prison Boss Orders an Investigation into Escape of Arua Prisoners

News
The Commissioner of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija says, he has ordered an investigation into the escape of 408 prisoners from Arua government prisons.

Over 400 prisoners escaped from the government prison, a few minutes after President Museveni was declared winner of the presidential elections last week.

The incident came a week after 80 prisoners had escaped from Apac government prisons.

Byabashaija says the prisons authorities are concerned, as to how a great number of prisoners could escape without a single shot fired by the prison warders.

He has described the incident as inexcusable, and a breach of contract by the prison authorities, who are supposed to ensure that criminals are tightly guarded.

130 prisoners have been re-arrested, and charged with escaping from lawful custody.
5 prison warders, who were on duty that day, have also been arrested.
