A candidate in the Luweero Woman Member of Parliament race rushed to police to ask for security citing death threats.
Elsie Namagambe, an independent candidate says that unidentified gunmen attacked her residence in Wobulenzi town council and threatened to end her life if she doesn’t pull out of the race.
Namagambe explains that the incident happened in the wee hours on Wednesday when unknown people knocked at her door for several times as they warned her. Namagambe adds that though she didn’t identify the person who had sent them, she suspects some of the candidates to be behind the threats.
Namagambe wants police to provide personal and home security through out the electoral period.

Cue out:…to remain friendly’’//
In the February 2011 elections the same candidate was attacked by masked gunmen on three different occasions but police did not arrest anybody in connection to the incidents. No candidate was willing to comment on Namagambe claims.
But the District police commander Samuel Bamuzibire confirmed receiving the reports and said that police are still investigating the matter before considering providing her extra security.
The District electoral commission registrar Peter Kasozi has condemned the threats and warned candidates against inciting violence in the elections.
Six candidates are in the race for the November 21st by-election. They include DP’s Brenda Nabukenya, Ziada Gwokyala of FDC, Rebecca Nalwanga of NRM, and independents Annah Kirabo Asimwe, Elizabeth Nabatanzi-Lugudde and Elsie Namagambe.
