A group of Muslims in Kabale district have staged a peaceful demonstration to protest against the construction of a piggery project close to the mosque.
The source of contention is a piggery house that was constructed near Kaguro mosque, along the Kabale-Kiroro highway.
The man behind the piggery is Sunday Bwenaku, who in a defiant tone assured the angry Muslims that he has a right to run his business irrespective of the location.
Bwenaku has since them blocked the roads that lead to his residence and has threatened to deal ruthlessly with anyone who will interfere with his business.
But on Thursday, a group of 30 Muslims both women and men from Kaguro Mosque in Hamurwa town Council in Kabale district, described the move by the businessman as nasty and in total disrespect of the Muslims.
Abdullaim Muhanguzi, the imam of Kaguro Mosque told this reporter that Bwenaku built a pen close to the mosque, in total defiance of the Muslim teachings which deter believers from associating with pigs.
Efforts by local council leaders in the area to settle the matter did not bear fruit.
The matter has been brought to the attention of the Resident District Commissioner, Cox Nyakairu. He has asked the Police and Community Lands Officer to intervene and resolve the impasse.
