More than 10 bridges have been washed away in Tororo district cutting off many villages from Tororo town.
Worst affected are the bridges that were recently opened and graded under the community agricultural infrastructural improvement program (CAIIP).
Some of the bridges that were washed away are located along the Morukatipe- Mella road, Mella-Amoni road, Merikit-Miwusi road, Paya- senda road, Kamuli- Petta road and Kidoko –Kamuli road.
Engineer Andrew Asaya, the officer in charge of CAIIP program described the current state of bridges as a natural disaster that has affected the entire country and not only Tororo district.
He said that he has written to the chief administrative officer, asking him to instruct the contractor to install additional culverts on the bridges.
