A man, who allegedly attempted to kidnap a school girl from Nyendo town in Masaka, was beaten into coma and only saved by police.
Yoweri Mugisha, purportedly a Rwandese national was beaten on Monday attracting police intervention. It took several shots in the air to burst the budding mob, which was threatening to kill the man.
Mugisha currently admitted at Masaka Referral Hospital allegedly waylaid a 16-year-old girl student of Notre Dame SSS in a futile attempt to kidnap her.
Residents of Nyendo town say the girl was on her way to the market, when Mugisha doused her with chloroform and allegedly dragged to Bulando Forest.
Several people interviewed said that the man could have been trying to take the girl for a ritual sacrifice.
Joyce Nantale, the girl’s aunty says she realized something was amiss when the girl failed to return home, sparking off a three hour search.
John Kabiito, the Notre Dame SSS gateman, mobilizedstudents to track the girl’s captor in the Forest.
Kabiito says one of the students spotted Mugisha stripping the girl and caught and paraded him before the mob which beat and hurled stones at him before the police arrived to rescue him.
The Southern Region Police spokesperson, Noah Sserunjogi says Mugisha is lying in critical condition at Masaka hospital.
Police have recovered Mugisha’s handkerchief and a bottle filled with Chloroform. Serunjogi says these will be used as exhibits.
