Siamese twins who were born in Kabale Regional Hospital will be flown to Egypt’s capital Cairo on Sunday for an operation to separate them.
Rhona Ninsiima, the Kabale Woman Member of Parliament said on Saturday that the Government of Egypt has pledged to meet all the financial costs of the operation.
The MP said that the twins currently weighing 10.6 kilograms will be accompanied to Egypt by Dr John Ssekabila, a senior surgeon at Mulago Hospital.
The twins, Timothy Twinomugisha and Trevor Baineomugisha, born to Rosette Tusiime of Kabale District, were admitted at Mulago Hospital in June and put on a diet to make them grow up to the required weight of 10 kilograms.
In October, the Deputy Executive Director of the Hospital, Dr. Doreen Male, confirmed that the twins hit the 10 kilogram weight needed to safely carry out the operation.
The twins were joined at the abdomen and their internal Organs like the heart, liver and the diaphragm are so close to each other but not joined.
