The road that connects Kyankwanzi district to Kibaale district has been seriously destroyed due to heavy rains making it impassable to motorists.
The over 80 KM road that connects the sub-counties of Watuba, Ntwetwe town council, Gayaza, Nkonko, Mpasana, Kisita and Nalweyo, was taken over by central government two years ago and worked on by the Uganda National Road Authority early last year.
The road has been seriously damaged especially around Kyabasita in Ntwetwe town council, Kitumbi in Gayaza sub-county, and Mpongo bridge at the border between Kyankwanzi and Kibaale districts.
Other areas are Maberenjeri, Kyangota all in Kisita sub-county and at Masaka in Nalweyo sub-county, Kibaale district.
This has paralyzed business along the route and effective service delivery as other areas such as Kitumbi are cut off.
Frank Bikwasizehi, a lorry driver who deals in agricultural produce in the villages of Mpansana sub-county in Kibaale to Kampala, was on Sunday found stranded at Kitumbi Bridge with his vehicle loaded with sacks of Maize stuck in the mud.
He blamed leaders for not responding to the disaster with almost all the bridges along the road destroyed by heavy rains.
Matovu Mathias, a resident of Ndibata village Ntwetwe town council blames the contractors who worked on the road last year of doing shoddy work.
He says that he can’t imagine that the road which was worked on in such a short period of time can get dilapidated despite heavy rains.
The Kiboga West Member of Parliament Samuel Ssemugaba who toured the road on Sunday says that government is urgently going to work on seriously ruined spots totaling to 21km along the road.
He says the road equipments are expected in the district on Monday to start off with the work.
