Godfrey Kayemba Afaayo, the embattled Masaka Mayor has dismissed plans by a group of councilors to censure him for alleged abuse office. He described the people behind the censure plans as jokers.
Some councilors led by Joseph Mugerwa and Mariam Tusiime are plotting to censure Kayemba for his alleged illegal involvement in land deals. He is particulary pinned to the controversial sale of Masaka Municipal chambers.
The Mayor’s trouble stems from reports that he allegedly got bribes from Brig. Moses Silver Kayemba to approve the sale of municipal chambers to him. The councilor’s claim that their one week investigations in the manner in which the municipal chambers were sold show that Mayor Kayemba indeed abused his office.
Although the probe committee led by Joseph Mugerwa had not yet tabled their findings before council about the sale of the municipal chambers, Mariam Tusiime, one of the councilors is threatening to move a motion to censure Kayemba.
But Godfrey Kayemba, says Tusiime, who was recently sacked from her position as Secretary for Finance and her group are jokers. Kayemba has also ordered Steven Lukyamuzi, the Speaker of Masaka Municipal Council to scrap off any issues regarding his censure from the council agenda.
Kayemba has said it is only God who can remove him from office through death.
// Cue in: “It is not like the town clerk……”
Cue out: “……crime at all.”//
Kayemba says he was sworn in as Mayor on May 25th and the building was sold in April. He therefore says the abuse of office allegations fronted by Tusiime are baseless.
