A prime suspect arrested in connection to the theft of solar panels in Muffo Water Works in Kalangala has pinned two district officials for buying the panels. They are Daniel Kikoola, former Kalangala LC5 Chairman and John Ekude, Kalangala Town Council Finance Secretary. Last week, 40 solar panels were stolen from Muffe Water Works that supplies water to Kalangala town council.
Two suspects including, William Kabuusu, Kalangala water officer and Joe Mukasa were arrested on Wednesday in connection to the theft. Godfrey Matte, Kalangala district police commander says the suspects were picked up after they received intelligence information connecting them to the theft. He says that they found 10 solar panels in the home of William Kabuusu, the Kalangala water officer and recovered another from Mukasa’s home, when they searched their homes.
Matte declines to disclose where the other 9 solar panels were recovered from. He says that during interrogations, Mukasa told police that they sold five solar panels to Daniel Kikoola, former Kalangala district LC5 Chairman. Mukasa however denies stealing the panels saying that Kabuusu who was in charge of the solar panels asked him to help him load them on a truck.
He says that they later sold five panels to Kikoola and another two to John Okude, Kalangala town Council finance secretary. According to Mukasa, other solar panels were taken by Kabuusu. William Kabuusu collapsed after Mukasa pinned him for his involvement in the theft of the solar panels. Kabuusu is admitted at Kalangala Health Center IV in critical conditions.
