Stop Eating Chimpanzees, Museveni Warns Bundibugyo

News
The president sounded the warning on Monday while addressing the people of Budibugyo at the Boma grounds in Bundibugyo town council.
President Yoweri Museveni has warned the people of Bundibugyo against eating chimpanzees, monkeys and Gorillas.

The president sounded the warning on Monday, while addressing the people of Budibugyo at the Boma grounds in Bundibugyo town council.

The warning stemmed from reports by the area members of parliament Dr.Kamanda Bataringaya and Harriet Ntabazi the woman MP that the residents are good at eating these monkeys and have refused to heed to their leaders advice.

Quoting the recent deaths from Ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers, the president said the apes carry dangerous diseases and human beings should not eat them.

The president blames the outbreak of Ebola disease in Bundibugyo in 2007 to the people’s bad eating habits of wild monkeys and chimpanzees.

Human beings are like animals and eating these monkeys would mean eating your brothers, said the president.

Museveni advised the people to establish piggery and goat keeping projects for good and healthy meat, instead of eating monkeys.

The chairman LC5 Bundibugyo Jolly Tibemanya, asked the president to speed up compensation for the families who lost their relatives to Ebola when it ravaged the district in 2007.

He says Ebola was brought by people who ate the monkeys and buried the skins for fear of being blamed and arrested.
