A health inspector in Kabale Municipality, Moses Tukamuhabwa has been arrested for alleged extortion.
He is accused of soliciting a 300,000 shillings bribe from the managers of Highland Hotel located along the Kabale Kisoro road.
The health inspector allegedly threatened to close the business unless he was given the money.
The Hotel manager, Innocent Agaba, instead alerted the inspector General of Government who photocopied the money that was to be handed over to the health inspector.
With support from the police professional standards unit, the trap was laid leading to the arrest of the man. Tukamuhabwa was whisked off and taken to Mbarara for further investigations.
Erute Nacklet, the officer in charge of the IGG’s office in Kabale told URN that Tukamuhabwa has been receiving bribes from some people after threatening to close their businesses over poor hygiene.

Peter Matsiko, the town clerk has urged the people to report officers who are soliciting bribes in return for services.
David Turyasingura, from the Professional standard Unit, admits that bribery cases are on the increase and said he is determined to arrest the culprits.
