Rebecca Nalwanga, the runner up in the Luweero District Woman MP by-elections has rejected the poll results citing vote rigging. On Monday, Nalwanga contested the Luweero District Woman MP by-elections on the NRM ticket but lost to Brenda Nabukenya, the Democratic Party. She polled 14915 votes against Bukenya’s 14915, while Forum for Democratic Change candidate Ziadah Gwokyala came third with 3775.
Nalwanga has rejected the poll results demanding for an immediate vote recount exercise. This after Nalwanga, petitioned Peter Kasozi, Luweero Returning Officer demanding a vote recount claiming that she defeated her rival by 52 votes. She accuses Nabukenya of conniving with Electoral Commission officials to alter the poll results at the tally center to rob her of her victory.
Elijah Mushemeeza, NRM Electoral Commission vice chairman says they can’t tolerate their candidate being robbed of her victory. Mushemeeza explains that they have petitioned the returning officer under section 54(C) of the parliamentary elections act demanding for vote recount.

Kasozi has confirmed receiving the petition adding that they have started looking into the matter before taking a decision. Brenda Nabukenya, the winner of the polls accuses NRM of trying to connive with EC to overturn her victory.

Anti-riot police has been deployed at the NRM party offices in Luweero town council to prevent jubilant DP youths from raiding it. The seat for Luweero Member of Parliament fell vacant last month when Justice Benjamin Kabiito found Nalwanga guilty of voter bribery and ordered fresh polls.
