Man 27, Jailed for Impersonation

Court presided over by Silver Tiru Kachwamba heard on Wednesday that John Kakooza went to the Fort-Portal police station claiming that he had lost vital documents including ATM cards and sought police protection.
The Grade two magistrate court in Fort Portal has sentenced a 27-year-old man to one year and four months in jail for impersonation.
 
Court presided over by Silver Tiru Kachwamba heard on Wednesday that John Kakooza went to the Fort-Portal police station claiming that he had lost vital documents including ATM cards and sought police protection.
 
While at the police station, Kakooza claimed he was a resident of Masaka municipality, but on his arrest police found him with a pass port identifying him as a resident of Namungona in Kampala.
 
Detective Kamugisha Joseph of Fort Portal police became suspicious of Kakooza and arrested him.
 
On a further search, police found the man in possession of two ATM cards of stanbic bank and FINCA, Passport, two sim cards, phone contacts of DRC Congo, and a sketch map showing his movements in Kasese district and DRC.
 
On interrogation Kakooza told police that he was bankrupt and had come to the police demanding for protection from security.
 
Prosecution told court that Kakooza was a rebel was on a mission to the DRC.
 
The accused did not enter a guilty plea and was sentenced to jail at Katoojo prison.
