Potholes Paralyse Traffic in Mbarara

Transport along Rugazi- Katete road in Mbarara town Thursday came to a standstill as boda boda cyclists from that area blocked the road to fix huge pot holes that they claim have turned into death traps.
Pothole fixing in Mbarara town has paralysed traffic along the Rugazi- Katete road in Mbarara town.

Commercial cyclists populary known as boda bodas blocked the road to fix wide pot holes which they described as death traps. Angry boda boda riders sealed off  the major routes early in the morning blocking people rushing to work in  Mbarara town.

Some pedestrians were forced to pay 500 shillings for water to quench the thirst of those fixing the potholes.

Umar Mutebi, Chairman Kihindi boda boda stage in Lugazi, said the municipal council has failed in its duty to fix the roads, prompting an action from the boda boda riders.

Mutebi says the huge potholes along Lugazi Katete road have become increasingly dangerous for the motorists and commercial motorcyclists alike.

Without disclosing the amount, Paul Omoko Town clerk Mbarara municipal Council says council has secured money under the road emergency fund to support roadworks and are in the process of identifying a contractor.

He says almost all the town roads have been destroyed by rains.

The Mbarara chairman Deus Tumusiime says efforts by the district to improve the feeder road networks have been hampered by the current rains.
