The Democratic Party has deployed up to 500 people to monitor the Busiro North parliamentary by elections scheduled for December 1st.
The party has deployed what it calls vigilantes in all the sub-counties of Busiro North constituency to carry out patrols in Masuliita, Namayumba, Kakiri and Kakiri town council.
The constituency has 86 polling stations and 5 people have been deployed at each of the stations.
Hussein Kasta Bukenya, the DP flag bearer in the polls noted that patrols are to start on Wednesday evening around all the villages mostly Buwanuka village. Buwanuka is Gilbert Bukenya’s home area.
The Busiro North seat fell vacant after Hussein Kasta Bukenya successfully challenged the vice president’s election victory at the High court. Court nullified the February 18th polls citing voter bribery and malpractices.
Luweero woman MP elect Brenda Nabukenya, Kawempe South MP Ssebuliba Mutumba, DP secretary general Matthias Nsubuga, and Kyadondo South MP Issa Kikungwe have admitted to be part of the team to monitor these election.
Kakiri town council LC3 chairman Kisekka Mohammed Bantubalamu, one of Kasta’s chief campaigners says that they lost the seat in February because they failed to monitor elections.
Nabukenya says that they have shifted the group that monitored the Luweero polls and is sure they will do the same work in Busiro North.
The race has attracted four candidates including DP’s Kasta Bukenya, former vice president Gilbert Bukenya for NRM, and Henry Kiwuwa and Teopista Kanzara Baliruno all standing as independents.
