A modern diagnostic, research and human disease laboratory has been constructed at Kiboga hospital.
 
The Laboratory worth over five billion shillings was constructed with funding from the American government. The money was channeled through the Center for Disease control and Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
 
The laboratory will be used for research on Tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, heart diseases, intestinal diseases, kidney diseases, liver diseases, and malaria, Medard Ndinawe, the project coordinator Infectious Diseases Institute said on Thursday.
 
Ndinawe said that the laboratory has been equipped to three star levels according to the ministry of health rankings.
 
The laboratory in Kiboga brings to three the number of laboratories dealing in diagnostic, research and human disease.
 
Medard says the laboratory has been equipped with a Chemistry machine which is used to test for sensitive diseases which attack sensitive body organs such as the heart, urinal system, Kidney and liver.
    
Dr Allan Niyonzima Muluta the Kiboga District Health Officer says that Uganda government will help to maintain the laboratory.
 
Researchers in human diseases and students on internship from medical institutions in Uganda including Mulago have started utilizing the facility.
 
The laboratory will serve Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Kibaale, Masindi and Buliisa districts.
