Two people believed to be illegal fishermen from Kasenyi fish landing site drowned in Lake Edward as they tried to escape from the beach management patrolling officers.
Bahati Mumbere 27, and Joseph Baluku 23, drowned on Sunday off Kayanza landing site in Nyakiyumbu Sub County Kasese district.
According to the officer in charge Lake Katwe police station, James Kiyonga, the two died after they reportedly dived off the boat to escape from the beach management patrol but failed to swim.
Kiyonga alleges that the two were fishing from a prohibited area which has been gazetted to allow fish to mature.
The bodies of the two were recovered on Monday evening after the locals mounted a search and found the bodies floating on the lake.
