Uganda’s Under19 Girls failed to defend the Africa Cricket Championship and finished fourth in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Monday.
Hosts Tanzania who also beat Uganda in one of the round robin games, lifted the trophy after collecting 38 points. Uganda’s team skippered by Rebecca Mirembe won five games, lost four and drew once.
Kenya finished third, while Rwanda and Mozambique came fifth and sixth respectively. The organizers selected Kenya’s Quinter Aoko as best player of the series, while Shameelah Maosweu from Botswana was best batter and Tanzania’s Esther Wallace scooped the best bowler’s award.
Team coach Raymond Otim told URN that the girls had tried their best but poor bating was the biggest problem. Otim, however, added that it was good exposure to play the likes of Botswana and Mozambique who are from a different region.
Team manager Getrude Namulondo said the team has a lot of work to do to up their game.
The championship which carried ranking points for Africa was recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
