Nigeria and Namibia are expected to jet into Uganda tomorrow ahead of the International Cricket Council [ICC] Africa Women Twenty20 championship, according to Uganda Cricket Association CEO Justine Ligyalingi. He says that other teams expected include Tanzania, Kenya and Sierra Leone.

Uganda’s Global ranking will improve with good performance in this tournament which is currently at number 4 behind South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya respectively. The ladies will have this in mind as they go into the tournament. The Tournament that runs December 16-20 at the Lugogo and Kyambogo Cricket Oval is sponsored by Pepsi International in conjunction with International Cricket Council.
 
Ligyalingi said after the men’s team won the Twenty20 World Cup qualifier after beating Namibia two months ago in Kampala, they expect the girls to put up a good show in their own backyard.  He says that tournament that will involve six teams will give the girl good exposure.
 
 
Uganda’s team of 14 players has been undergoing serious training under the watchful eyes of Coach Martin Suji who also handles the national men’s team. Uganda will open against Sierra Leone on Friday afternoon.
